Read all about my first few days in Australia!! Experience my moments surfing for the first time, watching the sunset at Cape Byron Lighthouse, swimming at Beach Byron Bay, and more!!

My first day at Byron Bay began by walking downtown looking at all the local shops and restaurants. It was very busy with families and friends out for the weekend shopping locally and headed to the beach, however, it was not overly crowded and all the locals were very welcoming to myself as well as my fellow study abroad students.

Later on, the group and I took a trip to Beach Byron Bay, threw on wet suits and went surfing. There were surfer instructors there to help those, aka me, who had never done surfing before or those who needed guidance. Personally, I needed a lot guidance. The farthest I got on the board was on my knees, but I was so focused on what steps I needed to do in what order rather than just doing it. For me, it was very overwhelming, but I feel with more one on one training and a lot practice I will get a hang of it. Nonetheless, after two hours of surfing the group and I headed to Cape Byron Lighthouse to watch the sunset, yet we found more than just pretty colors. We spotted whales, dolphins, and sea turtles! In every direction there was something beautiful and unique to see! Definitely the perfect way to end the first day in Byron.

The following morning was filled with Australian locals that spoke about the history and culture of the area. They shared information on how their culture prides itself on self discovery and knowledge of their ancestors. Additionally, they shared tips on living off of the land respectfully and learning how to treat the environment with love and result of doing so, which was great food and returned respect from nature. We were also taught on how to shoot a spear and throw a boomerang, which was pretty dang cool!

Later on that day, some girls and I decided to head to Beach Byron Bay for some sun bathing and swimming. Since it is currently winter here in Australia, the waters were a bit cold, but nothing a girl cannot handle. To end the trip, the girls and myself went out for nice dinner at Balcony Bar & Restaurant. In the end, this trip was a divine one, filled with memories that will last a lifetime!
I hope you enjoyed reading!! xo
